Service Description: In-person and online group exercise and falls prevention classes for older adults and people with mobility issues and chronic conditions offered in various locations * aims to improve strength and balance to prevent injury and falls

Classes are instructed by volunteers and staff trained in Seniors fitness Instructor Course through the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging and/or the VON SMART® (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) program

Goals include:
  • To reduce falls and educate participants about falls prevention
  • To improve flexibility, balance, strength and aerobic endurance
  • To enhance overall health

There are three levels of classes:

Level One

  • Designed to support improvement for those with limited mobility
  • Classes are primarily seated with standing components as tolerated

Level Two

  • Designed for those with a moderate level of ability
  • Class is a mix of both standing and seated components

Level Three

  • Designed for those with a moderate to vigorous level of ability
  • Provides the option to participate at a higher level of intensity
