Tillsonburg Transit System Pilot Project: Unreliable Transportation is a Significant Barrier for Many Individuals
This project was begun primarily to serve those individuals connected with Employment Ontario services who may have transportation issues. In the future, it may also be accessed by other individuals who need an inexpensive alternative to walking, biking or driving at a cost of $4 for a one way trip. Like the “Little Engine,” this is the project that grew! The first phase of this pilot will service the industrial sectors of Tillsonburg. The proposed route will cover Lincoln, Townline, Spruce, Rouse and Clearview streets. The route is subject to change. All shifts will be covered—both drop off for shift start and pick up at shift’s end, five days a week (confirmed). The pick up route consists of all Salverda Doughnuts franchise locations (Tim Hortons). Other stops are being considered.
Phil Gravelle, MSC Employment Retention Consultant (MSC Employment Services), will be making a presentation on the pilot to Tillsonburg Town Council on Monday September 23, 2013 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. An overview of the project, proposed route maps and details will be discussed. Thanks are extended to many colleagues and partners who have been involved in this initiative, including:
- Tillsonburg Resource Network agencies (including MSC – as supporter and sponsor)
- Why Wait Taxi (Supporter and Service Provider)
- Employment Ontario/MTCU
- County of Oxford
- Salverda Doughnuts
MSC has been providing community services since 1978. This initiative is in keeping with the agency’s continued quest to provide and enhance services for individuals in the tri-county area.
