City of London Launches New Website

Mayor Joe Fontana and members of the City’s Corporate Services Committee today officially unveiled the City’s new website.

The new website, built around a powerful search engine, is designed to make finding City of London information easier and faster. The new site also features a searchable calendar of City meetings and events, a “Quicklinks” page where the public can find information regarding common questions or concerns, improved contact and feedback opportunities, improved accessibility features and better navigation.

“Londoners need the best online connection to the City as possible and our new website opens that important link,” says Mayor Fontana.  “Last year london.ca had over 3 million visits and this number clearly illustrates the level of public engagement that is taking place via the Internet.  People are knocking on our virtual door and starting today their visit will be easier, faster and deliver a successful result. London is keeping pace with the technology demand and subsequent utilization.”

The website project involved employees from Information Technology, Communications and staff from every City Service area. More than 140 staff were trained as web authors to ensure that every Service Area has web content that is current, relevant and accessible.

“A website is always a work in progress and we welcome suggestions from our users to continually improve,” says Rob Paynter, Director of Communications. “This isn’t the end of our website project; in many ways it’s just the beginning.”
