City Celebrates Third Seniors’ Satellite Location

Members of the community, Sifton Properties, Councillor Denise Brown and City staff gathered to officially open the third Seniors’ Satellite Centre at the Berkshire Club with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a community celebration.

The Berkshire Seniors’ Satellite is the third of its kind in London. The first Seniors’ Satellite location opened at the East London Library in September 2012. The second Seniors’ Satellite opened at the Boyle Community Centre in April 2013. The Argyle and Boyle Seniors’ Satellites have a combined membership of 125, and each week these active older adults participate in a wide range of passive and active recreation and leisure activities.

“With the creation of our seniors’ satellites, older adults have an opportunity to meet new friends, participate in various recreation programs, and volunteer, all within their immediate neighbourhood.” said Lynne Livingstone, Managing Director of Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services.

“Community recreation programs play a vital role in building strong and healthy residents and neighbourhoods. It is important to connect with the community and increase awareness of the opportunities and range of services available to older adults,” said Ward 11 Councillor Denise Brown.

Sifton Properties is an integral partner in this new initiative, providing the programming space required.

The annual membership fee to the Berkshire Seniors’ Satellite is $8.85 + HST per person.

Programs and activities at the Berkshire Seniors’ Satellite run Tuesdays from 1:00 pm to 4: 00 pm.
