Epilepsy Huron Perth
Dissolution of Epilepsy Huron Perth

After serving the community for more than 20 years, it is with deep regret that the Board of Directors of Epilepsy Huron Perth announces the closing of the organization effective January 31, 2014.

With a mission to provide support, education and community awareness, it has been gratifying for our agency members to see results of increased independence and an improved quality of life for hundreds of adults and youth with epilepsy in our community. Also while forming partnerships and increasing epilepsy awareness with community agencies, school boards and health care providers we have effectively reduced the burden of stigma surrounding epilepsy.

As with many non-profit organizations, Epilepsy Huron Perth has found it to be an overwhelming challenge to raise enough funds to sustain the core programs and services. Despite trying to solicit partnerships, developing a social enterprise with a bottle return for the LCBO, continuous fundraising and using new methods to broaden our volunteer and membership base, it still hasn’t been enough.

We are very aware that the need for epilepsy support in our communities has not diminished. Epilepsy Huron Perth is business as usual from now until the end of January 2014. Starting January 31, 2014 for future concerns and needs of our epilepsy community we would ask you to call 1-866-EPILEPSY (1-866-374-5377) which will direct you to the nearest epilepsy office. Additional support can also be found at www.epilepsymatters.com.

Ryan Erb, Executive Director of United Way Perth-Huron, undergirds the response saying: “We are saddened by the closure of a long standing member agency, and especially for what it means to the clients. The board and staff are to be commended for their commitment, especially over the last two years where they have been working to overcome challenges of sustainability.”

We are grateful to the citizens of the communities in Huron Perth for their support over the last 20 years. Know that your past donations have made a difference in the lives of people and it is our goal to continue to fundraise for the Boyd Devereaux Sponsorship Fund. Details will be released in the near future.
