The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has announced a number of new resources and supports for youth who are in or leaving the care of Children’s Aid Societies. Among the supports announced, was the Youth-in-Transition-Worker (YITW) Program. The YITW Program will provide funds to community agencies to support eligible young people to identify, access, and navigate adult service systems relevant to their needs, and transition to adulthood, providing emotional support. The YITW worker will connect youth to existing supports and resources in the community, including housing supports, education resources, employment services and training, life skills (e.g. financial management, household management), health and mental health services, and legal services.
The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce has a long history assisting youth in Grey and Bruce counties. We are very happy to have had our application accepted. We will be hiring a YITW position very shortly and beginning discussions with Bruce Grey Child & Family Services and other related organizations to get this new program underway.
