Multicultural Association of Perth Huron Seeks Steering Committee Members: A pilot project of United Way Perth-Huron

United Way of Perth Huron is calling for volunteers to assist with the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron. A core group has been established, and the new association is looking to expand its volunteer roster.

The Multicultural Association of Perth Huron (MAPH) was formally established in November, 2013 to facilitate the full participation of all Perth-Huron residents in the life of their communities and to foster the cultural diversity:

The MAPH seeks to accomplish this by:

  • Promoting the attraction and retention of newcomers in the community and local workforce;
  • Acting as a “referral hub” for newcomers to Perth-Huron.
  • Complementing and enhancing the newcomer services currently provided by other community organizations.
  • Educating the community at large about living in a multicultural society.
  • Promoting harmony among the diverse communities by highlighting and celebrating both the similarities and the unique cultures which exist in Perth Huron;
  • Promoting, advancing, preserving and developing inherited culture and arts.

MAPH is seeking two volunteer members for its Steering Committee to:

  • Assist in developing, approving, and monitoring work plans and budgets.
  • Commission and evaluate research and reports for the MAPH.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts and writing grant applications.
  • Provide guidance to MAPH volunteers and/ or paid staff members
  • Discuss issues and promote the MAPH within their communities of interest and with the community as a whole.

The MAPH Steering Committee is looking for volunteer members from both local and other diverse cultures who have:

  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and inclusiveness

Also considered an asset:

  • Experience in fundraising and/or grant applications
  • Volunteer management
  • Personal experience as a newcomer to Canada

Interested persons should submit their resume and request the volunteer application form from Jessica Morrow, 519 271-7730 or jmorrow@perthhuron.unitedway.ca.
