Last Call for Quitters in Grey Bruce: Deadline to Enter Driven to Quit Challenge is February 28

Friday, February 28 2014, is the last day to enter the Canadian Cancer Society’s Driven to Quit Challenge. Those planning to quit, or who recently quit, have until the end of February to register for their chance to win a car and other cash prizes, as well as the many health benefits they’ll gain from quitting.

In 2012, over 700 people in the Grey Bruce took part in the Challenge and pledged to be smoke-free for the month of March.

“Many smokers make five to seven attempts before they quit successfully,” says Mathew MacLeod, Health Promoter at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “The Driven to Quit Challenge motivates people to make a quit attempt and provides professional support to help increase a smoker’s chance of becoming tobacco-free.”

New this year, Driven to Quit Challenge participants are eligible for discount coupons towards the purchase of nicotine replacement therapy products Nicoderm or Nicorette. By staying smoke-free throughout March, participants are eligible to win either a Dodge Avenger or a Dodge Journey, or one of seven prizes of $1000. Support buddies of winners receive a $100 cash prize, making it worthwhile to encourage a friend to enter.

For more information on local quit-smoking support, contact the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Information on the Driven to Quit Challenge is available online at www.DrivenToQuit.ca or by calling Canadian Cancer Society’s Smokers’ Helpline at 1-877-513-5333.

About the Driven to Quit Challenge

The Driven to Quit Challenge is a health promotion campaign to encourage adult Ontario tobacco users to quit smoking or other forms of tobacco for one month with the help of a support “buddy”. Participants are encouraged to access Smokers’ Helpline and Smokers’ Helpline Online for cessation support. To claim a prize, selected winners must demonstrate that they have remained tobacco-free for the month of March 2014. The Canadian Cancer Society’s Driven to Quit Challenge is presented by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson & Johnson Inc., makers of Nicoderm and Nicorette.
