SureStart Program Offering New Entrepreneurial Training

Are you ready to take your business idea to the next level? SureStart, a youth specific program, will be delivering new entrepreneurial training for ages 18 – 29, beginning March 24, 2014 at the Fusion Youth Centre in Ingersoll.

An entrepreneur can be described as someone who comes up with creative ways to increase the amount of money that can be made, either for a business or other cause. Young adults who are interested in starting their own business, whether they already have a business idea or are just discovering their entrepreneurial passion are encouraged to register. It is a five week training program, of 15 sessions in total and is designed to help youth complete a detailed business plan. Participants will be eligible for exclusive access to startup funding through a $500 grant, distributed by the Fusion Youth Centre.

SureStart will provide a hands-on learning environment with support from the local entrepreneurial community. The program is available to youth aged 18-29 inclusive and training is delivered in small groups and in a practical environment with other youth, meaning that youth can learn from and amongst their peers in a respectful and low pressure environment. Participants will finish the training with a business plan, the knowledge to implement their plan and a certificate of completion.

There is no fee associated with registration, as SureStart is funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Future Fund Grant. The entrepreneurial training is one component of the SureStart program. Other aspects include employment training using Fusion’s social enterprise as a training model, self management workshops and a Business Challenge Camp. The program is delivered in partnership with Community Employment Services and is available across Oxford County.

Youth are encouraged to register for the upcoming session online at www.FusionYouthCentre.ca or contact the Program Coordinator for additional information.

Quotes:

“Chronic unemployment or underemployment is an issue experienced by many local youth in Oxford County. As the labour market changes, so too must the opportunities and training that are offered to youth in order to help make them successful in a changing economy. Engaging youth in entrepreneurship is considered by many people to be the most impactful solution by encouraging youth to create their own employment or at the very least foster an entrepreneurial spirit that will make a youth an asset to any company.”

— Lindsay Wilson, SureStart Program Coordinator, Fusion Youth Centre

“The SureStart program focuses on the value of entrepreneurship, whether a young person is working for someone else or starting their own business. It is this entrepreneurial spirit that is an invaluable and transferable skill for young people to develop in today’s economy.”

— Jason Smith, Manager, Fusion Youth Centre

“The SureStart program helps develop an entrepreneurial mind set in participants which is a key transferable skill throughout the labour market. It also recognizes the value of small business as the backbone of our economy and strives to retain our young people in our community by exposing them to viable local opportunities.”

— Julie Matheson, Operations Manager, Community Employment Services
