Book Sale Changing Hands: United Way Work Experience Project PF Solutions Exited to “Take it On”

PF Solutions, a project of United Way Perth-Huron is pleased to announce that it will be undertaking semi-annual Community Book Sales beginning June, 2014.

The recent disbanding of the Friends of the Stratford Public Library meant that the annual book sale organized by the Friends was also ending, much to the dismay of many local book sale supporters.  PF Solutions, a work experience project which has been created over the past three years through the support of the United Way Perth Huron and the Ontario Trillium Foundation is stepping into the gap.

“Participants in PF Solutions are looking for community-based projects which will let them practice their business skills,” comments Dwight Robbins, Internal Services Co-ordinator. “Organizing semi-annual Book Sales will provide this practice while encouraging other community connections and raise needed operating dollars for our efforts.”

Julia Merritt, CEO of the Stratford Public Library says, “The Stratford Public Library will funnel withdrawn books from its collection to the PF Solutions Book Sale. The Library will be happy to see the books we can no longer use be re-used in the community to support this valuable work-experience project.”

Donations of books, gently used games and CDs to the PF Solutions Community Book Sale can be made in the front foyer of Conestoga Career Centre at 130 Youngs Street (former Nurses’ Residence).

PF Solutions is an unpaid work experience program that assists participants in the development of office skills and proactive job search techniques through a "learning by doing" approach. Opened in September 2011, their goal is to bridge the gap between education/skills and employment. PF Solutions’ participants form the day-to-day administrative, financial and IT staff for our sponsor company, Training-4-Success, thereby allowing them to experience an authentic office environment while working towards their employment goals. PF Solutions resides at 130 Youngs Street and works in collaboration with Conestoga Career Centre and the other community organizations located there.
