National Immunization Awareness Week: New app puts immunization information in your mobile device

Can’t find your child’s vaccination record? Can’t remember when you received your last vaccination? National Immunization Awareness Week (April 26 to May 2) reminds us of the importance of immunizations and to check if our immunizations are up-to-date. A new free mobile app, ImmunizeCA, makes keeping track of immunizations even easier.

“Recent outbreaks show us that infectious diseases can still be a threat if immunizations aren’t up to date,” said Karen Sweiger, Manager for the Vaccine Preventable Diseases program at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “To stay protected, it is important that we all maintain our immunizations, from infancy to our senior years.”

The ImmunizeCA app can help keep immunization records up-to-date. It requires only a single download, is user friendly and provides quick and easy access to information. The ImmunizeCA app is free. It can be downloaded from iTunes, Google Play or BlackBerry World, including BlackBerry devices compatible with Android. Follow the links below to download the app:

ImmunizeCA was developed by a partnership of the Canadian Public Health Association, Immunize Canada and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

If you cannot find your yellow card with your record of immunizations, call your health care provider or, if you attended school in either Grey or Bruce County, contact Public Health. Once your past records are entered into the ImmunizeCA app you will have access to immunization schedules and to reliable, expert, information about immunizations for children, adults and travelers. ImmunizeCA also offers useful tools such as appointment reminders and local outbreak notifications.
