United Way Perth-Huron
Successful United Way Campaign Means More Support for Community Agencies, Projects and Programs
Generous donors gave a total of $1,133,506 to the United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) last year, confident those funds would be distributed where most needed across both Huron and Perth counties. Supporting nearly 50 agencies, projects and programs in the region, UWPH campaign dollars will make a lasting impact for thousands of people.
Fund-allocations decisions are made by the Program Review & Allocations Committee (PRAC), a diverse group of 7 community volunteers, including a youth advisor and 6 members of the United Way’s Board of Governors.
“Members of PRAC from all over Perth and Huron Counties, and have worked hard to make sure all residents benefit from the generosity of our donors,” says Matt Orchard, PRAC chair.
This year, residents of Perth and Huron Counties, whose joint share of the 2013 campaign allocations totals $569,880 will benefit from services provided by the following:

- Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre
- Huron Hospice Volunteer Service
- Huron Safe Homes for Youth
- Huron Women’s Shelter
- John Howard Society of London & District
- ONE Care Home & Community Support Services
- Partners in Employment
- St. Marys Youth Centre
- St. John’s Cooperative Preschool
- St. Marys St. John Ambulance
- Stratford St. John Ambulance

In addition to agency allocations, residents of Perth and Huron Counties will benefit from services provided by these United Way – supported projects and programs totalling $365,425 including:
- 211 is a 24 hour helpline and online database of Ontario’s community and social services answered by highly-trained referral specialists.
- Local Community Food Centre provides resources that bring people together to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food. LCFC also works with the broader food movement to build greater capacity for impact and to empower communities to work toward a healthy and fair food system.
- Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron facilitates the full participation of all Perth-Huron residents in the life of their communities and foster the cultural diversity which exists within these communities.
- PF Solutions/Training-For-Success offers enhanced opportunities for employment by creating work experiences through a "learning by doing" approach.
- Social Research and Planning Council is dedicated to the collection, analysis and distribution of information relating to social trends and issues in Perth and Huron Counties. The most recent report was on Volunteerism.
- The United Centre accommodates a variety of non-profit charitable and social service organizations by providing subsidized rent (depending on need), shared services and common facilities.
- Transportation Task Force is a community conversation, led by UWPH to improve transportation opportunities in Huron and Perth counties.
- Volunteer Portal connects interested people to volunteer opportunities in the community.
- Winter Warmth is designed for low-income families and individuals living at, or below, the poverty line who have exhausted all other sources of financial support. Approved households may receive one grant (up to $500 maximum) each year.
Over and above these local investments donors chose to designate $28,177 to charities of their choice.
