I Am Prepared, We Are Prepared: London takes part in National Emergency Preparedness Week

During May 4 to 10, London's Emergency Management Partners will be taking part in National Emergency Preparedness Week.

This year, London's team focus will expand beyond personal preparedness to raise public awareness on the importance of reaching out to neighbours, families and friends who are vulnerable or incapable of supporting themselves during an emergency. While many are prepared, some among us may not have the support or capacity to deal with emergencies for many reasons - including physical challenges and language barriers.

In keeping with this year’s theme we are happy to announce a new partnership with London Intercommunity Health Centre. The centre provides a wide range of services including services to vulnerable individuals in our community and this expertise will assist us greatly in managing the impact a disaster will have on vulnerable individuals.

"London is a very safe city" says London's Community Emergency Management Coordinator Dave O'Brien. “Emergency Preparedness Week is an opportunity for us to showcase our strategic partnerships with the public, community agencies, private industry and other government organizations. We'd like everyone to be aware of how well our community can respond together in the event of an emergency."

London’s Emergency Management Program works to reduce the impact of a crisis before, during and after an event. Londoners are invited to tour the City’s Emergency Operations Centre on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for families to check out emergency vehicles and important displays geared to helping everyone prepare for the first 72 hours of an emergency.

Preparing for potential disaster before it happens is your best defence. Being prepared may mean the difference between being a victim or a survivor.
