YWCA St Thomas-Elgin
Community Connections Lead to Pathways to Prosperity!
Finding the services and support you need to get ahead can be a challenge when you don’t know where to look for help or who can help with what needs.
Pathways to Prosperity, a community collaboration to promote economic well-being for women in St. Thomas-Elgin led by the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin has launched a report card on women’s economic security to shed light on current realities for women and a resource guide to help in navigating supports and finding opportunities.
Housing, food, healthcare, employment and education – how much money you have access to – all of these resources play a role in achieving and maintaining a stable standard of living. The Women’s Economic Security Elgin St. Thomas Community Report Card 2014, provides a profile of these factors, among others, that impact economic well-being. With 48% of women in St. Thomas and Elgin County making under $20 000, the ability to meet basic needs is a challenge many are facing.
Community Connections, as the new resource guide has been named by a local resident, is a compilation of information on a variety of services that can help. It sets out to make it easier to find basic needs supports and services when you need them. It is being distributed in print through a variety of local service providers, Ontario Works, libraries and networks in order to reach out with information for those who may have limited access to a computer or the internet and is also available online with the report card at www.ywcapathways.com.
