London Health Sciences Centre to purchase former Bethesda Centre
London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has submitted an offer to purchase the former Bethesda Centre at 54 Riverview Avenue, with an expectation that the sale will be finalized by week’s end. The Adult Eating Disorders Service, which is a community-based program provided through a strong partnership between LHSC and the Canadian Mental Health Association Middlesex will be one of the programs moving into this facility.
“Ontario’s health-care system is in the midst of a sweeping transformation and LHSC is seeking new and improved ways to deliver care to our patients, including extending care into the community”, said LHSC’s President and CEO Murray Glendining. “Both the current outpatient clinic and residential treatment component of the Adult Eating Disorders Services, which are currently located in separate leased spaces in the community, will now be co-located at the new centre. By consolidating both components of the program, we will be better able to serve the needs of the patients and can do so without increasing costs to the hospital.”
The Adult Eating Disorders Service has been looking for a permanent home since its inception in 2012. This program has been developed to meet the needs of adults who require treatment for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorders. Letters were sent to neighbouring residents this week advising them of the purchase. LHSC will be hosting a community meeting in the coming weeks to share information and answer residents’ questions. Details regarding date, location and time for the community meeting will be mailed to residents at a later date.
