St. Marys Site – Notice of Construction: Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is excited to announce the construction schedule for the St.Marys Site Communication Station Refresh. Communication Stations function as a centralized work area that acts as the communication centre for both administrative and clinical tasks associated with patient care. Multiple members of the healthcare staff occupy this space and it also serves as a point of contact for both patients and visitors.

Work to create a new Communication Station will start in the Emergency Department on May 26, 2014 and will last approximately five weeks. Similar work to create a new communication station on the inpatient unit will start on June 23, 2014 and will last approximately six weeks.

During construction patients and visitors to the St. Marys Site may notice the following:

  • Increased noise
  • Construction and infection control hoarding
  • Reduced space within the Emergency Department
  • Use of main entrance by non-emergent patient transport services for patient pick up and drop off

No disruption to services offered at the St. Marys Site is expected. The construction should be limited to normal daytime working hours, and everything possible will be done to limit inconvenience to patients and family members.

These renovations reflect HPHA’s commitment to providing collaborative care that is patient and family focused. The improved design of these stations will support work flow processes, computerization, integration of technology, communication of caregivers and optimal patient outcomes.
