Day of Caring 2014: United Way Perth Huron Gathers Over 140 Volunteers To Help Local Organizations
Over 140 Volunteers will be joining together to paint, garden, and clean on Friday May 30th, 2014 for United Way Perth-Huron’s annual Day of Caring. This year TELUS has joined as a sponsor of the event and they are bringing over 80 volunteers to participate.
The Day of Caring was established by the United Way to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies and demonstrate what people working together for the community's good can accomplish.
Lesley Spencer-Cooper, VP Resource Development, says, “Day of Caring is about consciously thinking about others and making a small contribution to show we care. Even if you can’t participate, we encourage everyone to demonstrate care through a smile, holding a door, picking up garbage at a park or helping a neighbour with their garden.”
Day of Caring volunteers will be placed at: Avon Cooperative Nursery School, Emily Murphy Centre, Shelterlink, Local Community Food Centre, Stratford Perth Museum, Community Living to name a few. Spencer-Cooper explains, “These agencies don’t necessarily have the resources to hire people for these tasks and are excited that volunteers are stepping forward to create change. Sometimes, what seems like the smallest thing to us, can make the biggest difference in the life of others.”
Some of the businesses participating are TELUS, Aisin, CIBC, BMO, Family Services Perth-Huron, St. Marys Youth Centre and PF Solutions.
Anyone can participate and share what they are doing in their communities by tweeting #dayofcaring or posting on the United Way Perth-Huron’s Facebook Page.
