Community is Pumped for 7th Annual Oxford County Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®

This Saturday men will take to the streets of downtown Woodstock wearing some fancy footwear – including bright red high-heeled pumps. They’re doing it to call attention to the issue of gender-based violence, and to raise funds for the sexual assault/abuse counselling programs at Domestic Abuse Services Oxford.

The 7th annual Oxford County Walk a Mile in Shoes® will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10 am, beginning and ending at Museum Square. Walking in women’s shoes is not easy, but it's a fun way to promote awareness of a serious subject. Every year a growing number of men participate in the march and take a public stand on the issue of violence against women and children.

After “walking the walk” guest speakers will “talk the talk,” sharing their insights and inspiring stories. Refreshments will be available and prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers.

Participants have the opportunity to register and collect pledges online at www.daso.dojiggy.com. They can register individually or as part of a team and will be given their own fundraising web page that they can personalize with a photo and message. Alternatively, they can download a pledge form (www.daso.ca) or obtain one by calling Domestic Abuse Services Oxford at 519-539-7488 ext 236.

Women and children are welcome to participate and join the men for this important community rally. Women’s shoes are not mandatory but many men do turn up in fabulous fashionable shoes. Shoes are available to borrow as well – let us know your size so we can reserve a special pair for you!
