Veterans Selling Works of Art at Parkwood Hospital

When World War I began 100 years ago, it ushered in the start of wide-spread warfare the likes of which had never before been seen. Imagine the bravery of the men and women who witnessed the devastating impact of World War I when they were younger, yet still enlisted in World War II when it erupted.

Today these World War II veterans are in their 80s and 90s and enjoying the freedom they so valiantly helped to preserve. At St. Joseph’s Parkwood Hospital, one pastime many veterans enjoy is expressing their creativity in the Veterans Arts program’s woodworking, clay and textile studios.

Now, just in time for Father’s Day, they are selling these works of art at the Veterans Arts Craft Show and Sale on June 5.

Unique selections at the sale will include hand-made silk scarves and pillows, framed artwork, woodwork and woven mats. Tales Worth Telling—books capturing veterans’ stories in their own words—will also be available for purchase.

At Parkwood, part of St. Joseph’s Health Care London, the extensive arts program gives veterans a chance to learn new artistic skills or practice old ones, produce gifts for loved ones, and earn a little pocket money. Profits from each item sold go to the veteran artist.

Veterans Arts Craft Show and Sale
When: June 5, 9 am to 5 pm
Where: Parkwood Hospital, 801 Commissioners Road East, London
Western Counties Wing Auditorium
