City of London
City Launches "The London Cycling Experience"

Mayor Joe Fontana and City staff unveiled today a community wide initiative to increase cycling in London along with overall knowledge, awareness, and appreciation for cycling. It’s called: The London Cycling Experience. The City of London is using the London.GOODcoins.ca social rewards program by Zerofootprint, a holistic rewards program that engages and rewards participants for making positive changes in their everyday lives by making healthy and sustainable life choices.

Mayor Fontana supports every effort that helps keep Londoners active.  He says, “London is a city that moves and promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging our family, friends and neighbours to be as active as they can is a good thing.  London has also embraced a strong and progressive environmental plan that includes reducing the number of cars on the road and subsequently greenhouse gas emissions. Good luck to everyone involved and good cycling.”

The London Cycling Experience will run from June 16th to the middle of September challenging Londoners to cycle for 15 minutes a day for 15 days. There will be 6 different campaigns. Participants will be rewarded 100 GOODcoins for joining and 250 GOODcoins for completing the challenge. GOODcoins connects to mobile apps and wearable devices that cyclists can use to track their activity, which in turn equates into GOODCoins being earned, redeemable for socially good products on the GOODcoins catalogue.

GOODcoins is a data-driven program created by Zerofootprint a company that fuels daily behaviour change for sustainable success.

"We are excited to be collaborating with the City of London, London Hydro and other local businesses to encourage evidence based positive behaviour in London using GOODcoins," says Ron Dembo, founder and CEO, Zerofootprint. “GOODcoins is the first true alternative currency that rewards evidence based good behaviour, be it energy or water conservation, health or transportation. London residents will be rewarded for positive behaviour and will be able to spend their rewards on sustainable commerce in London. This has the double effect of making London a healthier, more resilient city as well as enhancing local commerce. For every kWh saved, or km walked the city will keep more local dollars from leaving London and will stimulate more sustainable commerce."

“The City of London has invested $5,000 to help encourage more cycling in London whether you are new to cycling, a seasoned cyclists or something in-between,” said Jay Stanford, Director of Environment, Fleet & Solid Waste, City of London. “The London Cycling Experience has the potential to improve the overall health and wellness of residents, decrease the City’s overall carbon footprint caused by motor vehicle exhaust, and increase Londoner’s knowledge of the benefits of cycling.”

Participants can share their success stories by tweeting @CityofLdnOnt and using the hashtag #ldnexperience.
