The 18th Annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive Finishes Strong
The London Food Bank now has 43,360 pounds of additional food on its shelves thanks to the generosity of Londoners who donated to the 18th Annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive.
A surprise addition this year was $3,300 raised for the Food Bank from ticket sales from the first performance of The Memphis Jam at Aeolian Hall on June 14.
The London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive struggled with low donations at the beginning of the drive but thanks to Londoners donating at the curb, Tim Horton’s and a local grocery stores, the 18th annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive finished strong.
“This has been one of busiest news cycles for London in recent years, with much to captivate the attention of local citizens. The Curb Hunger Food Drive had to fight for public attention during all these happenings and the result has been a lower donation level than hoped for,” said Glen Pearson, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank. “Nevertheless, the citizens of London have always responded once they realized the pressing need facing the London Food Bank and we’re sure that they will use opportunities next week to make their donations at the city’s main grocery stores. We’re thankful to live in the exciting community we do and for the fact that our citizens are so wonderfully generous both during the Curb Hunger Food Drive and throughout the year."
“When we launched the food drive on June our count was at 0 pounds,” notes Jay Stanford, Director, Environment, Fleet & Solid Waste. “Londoners have shown their generosity again for the Food Bank and the families it helps and at a time when requests from many different charities have increased and are also important.”
The running total for one of Canada's most unique food drives has now collected over 1,176,000 pounds in 18 years of helping to support the great work of staff and volunteers at the London Food Bank.
