St Joseph's Honours Nurses: 2014 Nursing Excellence Awards and Bursaries Recipients Named

In a ceremony today St. Joseph’s Health Care London recognized eight individuals and one team for their demonstrated nursing excellence in direct care; teaching and coaching; leadership; innovation and evidence informed practice with the presentation of the 2014 Nursing Excellence Awards and Bursaries.

“As nurses we are entrusted with caring for the sick and the vulnerable,” says St. Joseph’s Chief Nurse Executive Karen Perkin. “Patient needs are at the centre of what we do. The nurses who receive these awards exemplify the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph’s and give their hearts to those we care for. Every day, they lead by example across a variety of programs and services – whether assisting clients and families in our mental health programs, long term, complex care and rehab areas, or in our surgical or urgent care centre, these nurses care for their patients and families using best practices and compassion coupled with experience and knowledge as they work to address complex needs.”

St. Joseph’s Nursing Excellence Awards are especially meaningful because the recipients were nominated and chosen by their peers.

Selected St. Joseph’s nursing scholars were also presented with bursaries from the Dr. David B. and Zivia Ann Meltzer Fund, Nancy White Memorial Fund and the Helen C. L. Zavitz Fund to support their studies in the nursing profession. The bursaries and awards are made possible through generous donations to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation.
