Annual General Meeting Celebrates Success and Looks Toward the Future: United Way Perth-Huron Shares Board’s Strategic Directions based on Community Feedback

United Way Perth-Huron’s 2013-2014 Annual General Meeting was held Thursday June 19th at The Stratford Golf and Country Club. Christine Bland Kapp, chair of the Community Impact Committee, shared the long term Strategic Direction Plan of the Board of Directors. This plan was created based on feedback collected from the community over the last two years. Titled “What is the Community Calling Us To Do”, Bland Kapp shared the four Strategic Directions that the organization will focus on over the next 5 years. These include:

  • Collaborative and Cooperative Community
  • Evidence Based Action
  • Clearly Defined Priorities
  • Increased Revenue and Resources.

At the end, Bland Kapp summarized the plan; “We believe that our four Strategic Directions will further our commitment to our community and that by working collaboratively positive change will happen, because together we can!

Ron Cameron, outgoing Board Chair shared his thoughts of his time as chair; “It was my privilege to have been the Board Chair as UWPH set its mind to what it might become, and defining the Strategic Directions that will lead us into being an even more effective organization that will continue to be the impactful Community Organization that you have known us to be”.

Susan Moffat will replace Cameron for the next 2 terms as Board Chair.  The board also welcomed two new Board members from Huron County; Anne-Marie Thomson, who is currently working for the YMCA in Goderich and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team managing Community Recreation and the Strong Kids fundraising campaign; and Dave Overboe who has just recently retired from the County of Huron as Director of Social and Physical Services.

Volunteers were recognized for their outstanding achievement and emotions ran high as Erb bid farewell to an extremely dedicated Board Member Christine Bland Kapp.

United Way Perth-Huron will announce the campaign co-chairs and goal later this summer. Full financials are available on the United Way’s website: www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca.
