More Support for Local Seniors' Centres

Ontario is helping seniors stay healthy, active and connected to their communities by supporting Elderly Persons Centres.

The province is providing $11.5 million to support 265 centres across the province. Elderly Persons Centres provide social and recreational programs that promote wellness for seniors and offer them places to gather for activities like fitness classes, computer classes, and arts and crafts. This funding will help the centres maintain their operations and make small renovations, such as improving accessibility or making IT upgrades to better serve clients.

Helping seniors stay active and engaged in their communities is part of the government's plan to invest in people and create greater opportunity for Ontarians around the province.

Quick Facts:

  • By 2016, for the first time, people over 65 will account for a larger share of the population than children aged 0-14.
  • Ontario is providing a total of $11.5 million, including almost $1.9 million in Special Grant funding, to 265 Elderly Persons Centres in communities across the province.
  • Elderly Persons Centres serve Ontario seniors in 140 communities.
