United Way Perth-Huron
Invitation to First Anniversary Celebration of the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron

There exists in Perth and Huron Counties an “informal society” of newcomers and minority groups. According to Statistics Canada (2011), the immigrant population numbered 10,365 (Perth 6160; Huron 4,205). This number has since grown. These people, who are newcomers, in many respects are isolated from the “formal society” as a whole and are often invisible.

Since 2013, the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron has assisted over 227 newcomer families and individuals from over 54 countries, to make their homes in Perth-Huron. Their mission is to assist newcomers to connect with the services and social connections they need to be.

They are extending an invitation for all to join them for the first anniversary dinner of the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron, a pilot project of the United Way Perth-Huron.

When:  Sunday October 19th, 2014 at 5:00 pm
Where:  The Festival Inn – 1144 Ontario Street, Stratford

There will be speakers and multicultural food starting at 6:00 pm. As the saying goes: “It takes a village to raise a child.” This new organization needs the acknowledgement and support of our community in order to thrive.

There is no cost for admission but donations to the Multicultural Association are welcome at the door.

“A welcoming community has a strong desire to receive newcomers and to create an environment in which they will feel at home. A welcoming community ensures that newcomers are able to participate fully in all aspects of community.”
