It Could Be the Breast Conversation You Ever Have! Contest for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Perth District Health Unit is helping to spread the word about breast cancer screening. It could be the “Breast Conversation” you ever have!

Breast cancer remains the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Canadian women, affecting one in nine women in their lifetime. Impossible to see or feel in its early stages, early detection of breast cancer could save you or your loved one’s life.

Regular breast cancer screening can find cancer when it is small, which means:

  • There is a better chance of treating the cancer successfully
  • Treatment may be minimal with less down time
  • It is less likely to spread
  • There may be more treatment options.

In Perth County there are three Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) locations: Stratford General Hospital, MIC Medical Imaging (Jenny Trout Centre) and Listowel Memorial Hospital. Women between the ages of 50 and 74 should be screened every two years. To book a mammogram, call 1-800-668-9304.

Spa Contest

During the month of October, the South West Regional Cancer Program is encouraging women to talk to the ladies in your life about screening for breast cancer and you could win a $250 gift certificate to the spa of your choice.

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Call your girlfriends, mother, daughters, aunts, or sisters and encourage those over 50 to book a mammogram or talk to their doctor about screening.
2. Bust out your camera and snap a picture that illustrates what being a “breast” friend means to you. Get creative!
3. “Like” the South West Regional Cancer Program on Facebook and upload your photo to be entered into the draw.

Get your girls together and enter now! Contest closes midnight October 31, 2014. Go to http://www.southwestcancer.ca/what-are-we-up-to/its-breast-conversation-ever to submit your entry and for full contest rules and regulations.
