Lawson Leads the Way in Cancer Treatment Technology
London, ON - Scientists at Lawson Health Research Institute are ushering in a new generation of cancer treatment that is making the impossible possible.
London is quickly earning a reputation for excellence in radiation oncology. At this year’s Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO) Annual Scientific Meeting, Lawson scientists represented nearly 1/6 of the conference posters. Led by Drs. Alex Louie, David Palma, and George Rodrigues, the group was honored with top awards at all levels, including two prestigious conference awards, four national grants, and the top medical resident poster.
Their acclaim is well-deserved. The Lawson team is developing innovative new technologies to find and slow, or even stop, cancers like never before. They are pioneering techniques that are safer, faster, less painful, less invasive, and less costly than the current treatment options. Most importantly, they are more effective. Through cutting-edge procedures, patients who once had little hope for survival can now be treated – and potentially cured.
Through the generous support of donors through the London Health Sciences Foundation, this group has attracted acclaimed clinical scientists and cultivated a renowned educational program. As they continue their research, the Lawson group hopes this reputation for excellence will establish London as a hub for cancer treatment technologies, attracting global leaders in industry, research, and education.
