St Thomas Elgin Local Immigration Partnership Newcomer Champion Awards

The Newcomer Champion Awards supports the building of prosperous, vibrant, and connected communities by encouraging citizenship and engagement.

Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Award

This category focuses on building welcoming, and caring communities through work that is being done to help newcomers. Nominations in this category may include an Individual, Group, or Organization who are:

  • Working with the community to address the needs of newcomers by recognizing and responding to the diverse needs of the community
  • Developing an understanding of our local cultural diversity
  • Working to strengthen the community by working with others to build positive changes
  • Volunteering to support diversity and newcomers and who advocate for social and civic inclusion
  • Delivering services that provide the groundwork for newcomers to be socially and economically connected to their communities

Newcomer Community Leader Award


This category focuses on a newcomer that is helping to build a welcoming, caring, and inclusive community by giving back to the community in some capacity. Nominations in this category may include a newcomer who:

  • Is committed to making a difference by creating welcoming communities for other newcomers
  • Is giving back to the community in a positive and progressive way
  • Is working with the community to strengthen and build positive changes

Eligibility


A person is eligible for either of the two awards if they are a St. Thomas or Elgin County resident since at least January 1 of the year of the nomination An organization is eligible for the Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award if they are established in Elgin County

The Newcomer Champion Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate our community’s wealth of diversity.

The theory of cultural diversity may include religion, age, gender, abilities, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic background. This new award will celebrate those who have supported cultural diversity and fostered positive changes.
