Ministry of Research and Innovation
Statement on the Report from the Ontario Health Innovation Council

Today, the following statement on the report by the Ontario Health Innovation Council was released by Reza Moridi, Minister of Research and Innovation:

"I am pleased to receive the report today from Dr. Dave Williams, Chair of the Ontario Health Innovation Council.

I, along Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and David Orazietti, Minister of Government and Consumer Services, look forward to reviewing the council's report and making an announcement in the new year that will outline how the government will proceed on its recommendations.

The council was established by the Ontario government in 2013 to provide recommendations on ways to accelerate the adoption of new technologies in the province's health care system and to support the growth and competitiveness of Ontario's health technology sector.

The council brought together a diverse group of experts with extensive experience in health care, community care, medical devices, non-profit, mental health, research, academic and health technology businesses.

I want to thank the members of the council for their hard work and collaboration over the past year.  We are committed to improving access to health care.  Innovation can be a catalyst to help us find better ways to deliver high quality care.

The report also provides opportunities that align with our strategy for value-based and innovative procurement. Our government is committed to working with small- and medium-sized businesses to ensure that their innovative products and services provide real benefits to Ontarians and have an opportunity to be effectively used by Ontario's health care system."
