United Way Hoping the Spirit of the Holidays will Provide a Boost: Campaign now projected to be $40,000 short of goal

United Way Perth Huron’s annual fundraising campaign is at 75 percent of its goal as it enters the home stretch. They have raised a little more than $850,000 as of Dec. 22 and their goal is $1,170,000 million.

“It’s been a more difficult campaign this year”, says Executive Director Ryan Erb. “While individual donations have been up significantly, many of our work place campaigns and special events have been down. Since I’ve been in this role, I’ve promised to tell people where we are at, good or bad. Last year we had nothing but good news and overshot our goal. This year, we’ve been behind most of the campaign and now that we can see the finish line, we are predicting an approximately $40,000 shortfall.”

Despite this challenge, Campaign volunteers remain encouraged and are going to work hard to make up the difference.

“It’s really important that we meet the goal,” says Campaign Co-Chair and Chief of Police John Bates. “So many important projects and agencies are relying on the United Way.” Co-Chair, Wayne Smith, says “We need everyone’s help to meet our goal. And, what better time of year to think about giving a gift. Please give generously.”

The campaign provides resources for nearly 50 agencies, projects and programs directly targeting the most pressing needs of our two counties.

In 2013, their campaign raised $1,151,000. Donations can still be made at 519-271-7730 or online at www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca
