HealthKick Announces the 2015 Rural Healthcare Work Placement Program

Students interested in summer jobs in the healthcare sector are encouraged to review the job opportunities posted on our website. The deadline for applications is February 2nd, 2015. These placements offer students from Huron County the chance to work in a position that offers exposure to the healthcare environment as well as skill development opportunities. HealthKick offers support to local health organizations to encourage mentoring and learning positions in the healthcare system.

“This program seeks to support linkages of our future healthcare workers and professionals to local employers in this sector. It provides students with the chance to learn and grow,” says Laura Overholt, Project Manager for HealthKick.

In 2014, Alyssa Taylor worked at the Clinton Family Health Team.  She said of her experience: “I am very satisfied with my experience. I have very much enjoyed my work placement. I was able to learn many new things and was provided with lots of opportunities.”

Another participant, Austin Sjaarda, says of his time with the Bluewater Area Family Health Team, “The experience has been a great fit for my healthcare goals and I have learned a lot from working at the clinic. I have always been very interested in pursuing a healthcare career and this job has really solidified my aspirations to work in the medicine field.”

HealthKick has offered this program since 2005 and it has provided important experience building opportunities to local post-secondary students interested in healthcare careers. When these students graduate they have an increased interest in living and working in our local communities. It is a wonderful opportunity to share the healthcare organization's passion and role in healthcare and engage these future healthcare professionals in the benefits of rural practice.

The program for 2015 in Huron County is made possible through funding for HealthKick through the County of Huron and we recognize the wonderful support of the County of Huron for this and other areas of the HealthKick project.

We thank the healthcare sector for the continued interest in this wonderful opportunity to help build our local healthcare workforce.
