Become Smoke Free and Win!

Quitting smoking is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. And it’s not too late to start – this is National Non-Smoking Week and there are contests and supports to keep you motivated. You could end up winning big!

For young adults and post-secondary students, Leave the Pack Behind’s wouldurather… contest features two grand prizes of $2,500. There is a category for everyone - people looking to quit, to cut back or to stay smoke free. The contest is open to young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 and post-secondary students of all ages.  Register by January 25 at www.wouldurather.ca.

If winning a car is incentive for you to quit smoking, adults can sign up for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Driven to Quit challenge. The contest is for any tobacco user over the age of 19 in Ontario. To be eligible, you must have used tobacco at least once weekly for at least 10 months in 2014. The grand prize is the choice between a 2015 Nissan Sentra, 2015 Corolla S, or a 2015 Scion tC. There are also seven cash prizes of $1000 to be won. Register by February 28 at www.driventoquit.ca.

“Quitting is a process, not an event. It’s not something you do one day and never have to think about again,” says Public Health Nurse Julie Verch. “The Health Unit wants to support Huron County smokers in their quit attempts. If you've decided to take on the challenge of quitting these contests are a great additional motivation.”
