Western University - King’s University College
King’s School of Social Work Home of New YouthREX Research Hub

As a part of Ontario’s Youth Action Plan, The Youth Research and Evaluation eXchange (YouthREX) will launch the South-Western Ontario Regional Hub at King’s University College on Thursday, March 5, 2015, 11:00 am,Vitali Student Lounge, Wemple Building, 266 Epworth Ave, London.

YouthREX is a province-wide initiative based at York University with five regional hubs across Ontario that promote the integration of research evidence and evaluation in the development and delivery of Ontario’s youth programs. The five regional hubs are housed at King’s (South-Western), Carleton University (Eastern), York University (Central), Lakehead University (North-Western), and Laurentian University (North-Eastern).

“We are very excited about this project as many small and grassroots youth-serving organizations provide innovative and meaningful initiatives to marginal communities, but most of them don’t have the resources and capability to research and evaluate their practices. This project helps to build the research and evaluation capability for these organizations and share the best practices in the sector,” says Dr. Siu Ming Kwok, Professor of Social Work at King’s and Academic Director of South-Western Regional Hub of YouthREX (YouthREX@King’s).

“In the next two and half years, we would like to not only work with the youth serving organizations for research and evaluation capability building, but also empower the youth by involving them in the process. Youth is the anchor of youth serving organizations and also in our project,” adds Dr. Kwok.

The mission of YouthREX@Kings is to provide research & evaluation resources, supports, and services to youth serving organizations in order to improve wellbeing outcomes for youth in Ontario. The focus will be on three areas: knowledge mobilization, capacity building, and customized evaluation supports.

YouthREX is primarily funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services with extensive contributions from York University and the four partner universities (King’s, Lakehead University, Laurentian University, and Carleton University). Full details can be found at http://youthrex.com/.
