Patients Rate GBHS Hospitals as Best in Province
Two of the Grey Bruce Health Services Emergency Departments – in Markdale and in Lion’s Head - received the highest patient satisfaction scores in the province from patients who were asked to rate the care they received. Many other Grey Bruce Health Services departments also received top ratings in Ontario.
The National Research Corporation of Canada (NRCC) recently released its fourth annual report on patient satisfaction completed by patients at hospitals across the province between April 2013, and March 2014.
The survey asks two questions about various departments within Ontario hospitals:
Overall, how would you rate the care you received at the hospital? (Overall Satisfaction)
- Would you recommend this hospital to your family or friends?
Grey Bruce Health Services was compared to similar sized hospitals.
“These excellent survey results demonstrate that many of the units in our hospitals are offering the best care in the province, and we are very proud of our staff, physicians and volunteers,” said Lance Thurston, President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services.
“They are dedicated, caring professionals, and it’s reaffirming to receive such positive feedback from our patients. The results are loud and clear – quality care is right here in Grey Bruce, close to home.”

GBHS Lion’s Head Hospital:
The Emergency Departments in both Lion’s Head and the Centre Grey Hospital in Markdale tied for the best score in Ontario among all hospitals for both ‘Overall Satisfaction’ and in response to the question ‘Would you recommend this hospital to your family or friends?"
The Inpatient Unit was the top performer in the community hospital category for Overall Satisfaction, and ranked in the 90th percentile in the ‘Would Recommend’ category.
Centre Grey Hospital:
In addition to being tied with GBHS Lion’s Head ER for recieiving the highest rating from patients among all hospitals in Ontario for ‘Overall Satisfaction,’ the Centre Grey ER was also ranked in the 90th percentile in the ‘Would Recommend’ category.
GBHS Owen Sound Hospital:
The Rehabilitation unit was rated the top performer among all hospitals in the ‘Would Recommend’ category.
The Day Surgery department was the top performer among all hospitals for ‘Overall Satisfaction.’
Wiarton Hospital
The Emergency Department was the top performer among all hospitals in response to the question ‘Would You Recommend this hospital to your family or friends?"
The Inpatient Unit also ranked as the top performer among community hospitals in the ‘Overall Satisfaction’ category, and ranked in the 90th percentile in the ‘Would Recommend’ category.
Meaford Hospital
The Emergency Department was in the 90th percentile among community hospitals for ‘Overall Satisfaction.’
The Inpatient Unit in Meaford was also in the 90th percentile among community hospitals in the ‘Would Recommend’ category.
