South Bruce Grey Health Centre has extended operation of the Restorative Care Unit in Chesley

South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s (SBGHC) Board of Directors has extended operation of the Restorative Care Unit in Chesley until June 27, 2015 to allow for a recently completed restorative care capacity assessment for Grey Bruce to be studied.

Late last month, the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) requested that SBGHC sign a ‘Balanced Budget Waiver’ for the organization’s 2015-2016 Hospital Service Accountability Agreement to operate in a deficit while the regional requirements for the service are analyzed.  By agreeing to accept the waiver, SBGHC will fund the continuation of the Restorative Care Unit using capital reserves.

“We are working cooperatively with the LHIN and our stakeholders (CCAC, Grey Bruce Health Services and Hanover & District Hospital) to develop a sustainable regional strategy for restorative care services,” explains Paul Rosebush, SBGHC President and CEO.  “We hope to arrive at a mutually agreeable plan as soon as possible in the interest of our patients and staff.”

SBGHC announced in December 2014 that the unit would close on May 2, 2015 as it is unfunded, costing the organization approximately $800,000 annually to run.
