The Active Lifestyles Centre Grey Bruce is pleased to announce the formation of the Council on Aging Grey Bruce Owen Sound (COA).  The COA Grey Bruce Owen Sound is having seniors take a lead role in the development of Age Friendly Communities across Grey Bruce Owen Sound.    The Active Lifestyles Centre Grey Bruce is continuing to provide  a leadership role by working with the COA in developing COA Community Advisory Committees  and determining the next steps in  the strategy development process. This includes an organizational structure with clear accountabilities to the COA  and it’s membership that are directly tied to the areas we need to focus on to be successful.

These areas include:

  • provide networking opportunities
  • establish a comprehensive network of resources
  • provide an environment for knowledge exchange between stakeholders
  • provide opportunities for dialogue on community support and health services, social and recreation activities, social inclusion, housing, transportation, outdoor spaces and buildings, employment and volunteering
  • educate, prepare, support  and advocate for seniors, their families and their caregivers so that they have the tools and services to age well at home so that they can enjoy a full and active lifestyle and maintain their independence

The COA has met several times since their first meeting on March 30, 2015 and are developing their mission, vision and values.  Once this has been established, presentations will be made to local government, seniors groups, clubs and organizations to outline the role of the COA and COA Community Advisory Committees and encourage seniors to become engaged in their community by providing their expertise and input in determining local priorities in making their community age friendly.
