Grey Bruce Health Unit
Celebrating Nursing

Setting the stage for National Nursing Week, May 11 – 17, a special event to honour nurses takes place at the Grey Bruce Health Unit, Thursday, May 7. The second annual Best Practice Champions Open House celebrates local nursing excellence. Nurses from across Grey Bruce will share innovative nursing best practice and highlight how they bring that to their workplace. The event will feature Dr. Irmajean Bajnok, Director of Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario and International Affairs and Best Practices Guidelines Centres. There will be additional presentations from the College of Nurses of Ontario on the theme of nurses working together across sectors to improve health care.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit will share experiences in becoming a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO). This designation is awarded to an organization for making a positive impact on patient care through evidenced-based practice. BPSO participants agree to implement five Best Practice Guidelines over a three-year period, with support from Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Grey Bruce Health Unit is the first organization in Grey Bruce to receive this designation. Parkview Manor Long-Term Care Residence in Chesley will be the second organization to be designated BPSO when they complete the process in 2017.

The Best Practice Champions Open House will also feature an acknowledgement of the 2015 winners of the Bayshore Broadcasting “Caring Nurse Award”. Based on nominations from the public, the Award is presented to local nurses from all sectors who make a difference in the lives of their patients.

This event is jointly supported by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario Champions Open House, Parkview Manor Long-Term Care Residence and Grey Bruce Nursing Practice Network.
