“I Am Ready” – Are You? London takes part in Emergency Preparedness Week
Do you know what do in a tornado, flood or winter storm? Do you have everything you could need during a major emergency? We seldom think about potential disasters that can affect us. Yet emergency situations can strike almost any community, including ours. During May 3 to 9, London's Emergency Management Partners will be taking part in National Emergency Preparedness week.
This year, London's team will be focused on raising awareness to the importance of being prepared; ensuring residents know the risks and have a plan in case of an emergency.
"Being prepared is our collective responsibility as a community" says Mayor Matt Brown. “During Emergency Preparedness Week, I encourage all Londoners to learn more about how our city’s emergency responders are ready for an emergency, and also how to prepare a plan for yourself and for your family.”
London’s Emergency Management Program works to reduce the impact of a crisis before, during and after an event. “Londoners also have an important role to play in community safety,” says London's Community Emergency Management Coordinator Dave O'Brien. “Everyone should be prepared to take care of themselves and their families for up to for 72 hours in the event of an emergency or disaster, until they can be reached by emergency workers.”
Preparing for potential disaster before it happens is your best defence. Being prepared may mean the difference between being a victim or a survivor.
