Secord Trails Care Community - Ingersoll
Leisureworld Caregiving Centre — Oxford Announces New Name

Leisureworld Caregiving Centre – Oxford has changed the name of their home to Secord Trails Care Community effective May 1, 2015 to celebrate their connection to the area and local community. The change was inspired by the organization`s new vision, to awaken our communities to the positive possibilities of life`s next chapters, and involved input from residents, families and employees.

“We are very proud of our home, our community, and of the strong foundation and reputation we have built; and wanted to honour this in our new name,” said Dahlia Burt-Gerrans, Executive Director. “The new name was chosen as we have honoured two significant Canadians with the name "Secord Trails". "Secord" pays tribute to Major Thomas Ingersoll, founder of Ingersoll, who was also the father of Laura Secord. In Canadian history of the War of 1812, Laura Secord walked 20 miles to inform the British troops that there was an impending American attack on our troops. "Trails" pays tribute to an important person in our local history: Dr. Lawson. Dr. Lawson was a well-known physician in the area and was very passionate about nature.  He had purchased land and dreamed of it being made into trails for the public to use.  In 1995, the Lawson family donated Dr. Lawson's Nature area to Ontario Nature which has conserved the area and provided trails to the local community.”

This new identity follows an announcement from Secord Trails Care Community’s parent company, Leisureworld Senior Care Corporation, regarding its decision to rebrand itself as Sienna Senior Living, subject to shareholder approval. This rebranding is accompanied by the launch of the organization’s new brand positioning statement: the warmth of human connection.

“Coming up with our new name together was fun, and I would like to thank everyone who was involved for their support throughout this process,” said Dahlia Burt-Gerrans. “This is reflective of our commitment to continue strengthening the services we provide to residents, their families and the community at large.”

Secord Trails Care Community will be celebrating this change with a sign unveiling on the 29th of May, 2015.

Secord Trails Care Community opened in 1975 and serves 80 residents each day, committed to quality care and service while promoting resident choice. Their parent organization is one of Canada's largest owners of seniors housing, and the largest licensed long-term care provider in Ontario with 35 long-term care homes, and 10 retirement residences across Ontario and British Columbia.
