Say No to Hunger - Support the 19th Annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive
The London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive begins its 19th year of collecting food donations for the London Food Bank this Friday, June 5. Londoners have been incredibly generous over the last 18 years, donating 1,176,570 lbs of non-perishable donations as part of Canada’s most unique food drives.
Participation in the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive is very easy. Londoners have three choices. Between June 5 – June 13, Londoners can buy a few extra non-perishable food donations and leave them at their neighbourhood grocery store; bring items to any Tim Hortons location; or they can place their donations in a bag tied with a ribbon and set-out beside their Blue Box in the morning of their recycling day. The City’s recycling contractor Miller Waste and volunteer crews will collect the donations from the curb.
“We know that food supplies at the Food Bank are typically lower during the summer months,” says Mayor Matt Brown. “That's why it is so important for Londoners to give what they can. Year after year, residents and local businesses have demonstrated what a generous, caring and compassionate community we have. I encourage everyone to extend that generosity again this year.”
“Over the past five years, the need for food donations has grown by over 40 per cent. Every pound of food is more important than ever,” said Jane Roy, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank. “In 2014, about 3,500 families per month visited the Food Bank resulting in over 42,000 visits during the year.”
All food collected by the Food Drive is donated to the London Food Bank. This is a necessary service for those who need a helping hand to get through difficult periods of their lives.
