City of London
Only four days left to give generously to the Curb Hunger Food Drive!
We're halfway through the 19th annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive and The Food Bank needs the help of Londoners. So far there has been a total of 14,850 pounds of food collected. Based on Curb Hunger food drives over the last 5 years, donations from Londoners at the midpoint are running about 50% behind the average.
Stocking the shelves at the Food Bank heading into the summer months has always been a key reason for holding this food drive in June. Donations tend to drop off in the summer months but the need does not change.
It's easy - Londoners have 3 choices. Until Saturday, June 13th, Londoners can buy extra non-perishable food donations and leave them at their neighbourhood grocery store, bring items to any Tim Hortons location, or they can place their donations in a bag tied with a ribbon and set-out beside their Blue Box in the morning of their recycling day. Dropping off food donations has never been easier with over 65 locations found at Tim Horton locations and local grocery stores.
"Even on our street this morning where the road is torn up in construction, I watched my neighbours carrying out their food donations despite the obstacles - proving again the Londoners excel when it comes to generosity. It was inspiring," said Glen Pearson, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank.
For those that like the convenience of curbside service, the City’s recycling contractor Miller Waste and volunteer crews will collect the food donations placed beside the Blue Box .
“We need Londoners help in our final days to stock the shelves at the Food Bank with much needed food items for the summer months ahead,” highlights Jay Stanford, Director, Environment, Fleet & Solid Waste for the City of London. “Londoners have always been generous with food donations and we hope they can give what they can in the next few days to help out.”
The following is the remaining curbside schedule for this year’s Food Drive: TODAY - Wednesday, June 10 - Zone F Thursday, June 11 - Zone A Friday, June 12 - Zone B For more information find the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive on the web at www.london.ca/londoncares, on Facebook, and check out and share our video.
