2015 Living Wage Report Launch

The United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, in partnership with the Labour Market Strategy project and Huron County Health Unit, will be launching their 2015 report entitled “A Living Wage: What it takes to make ends meet in Perth and Huron Counties”. A living wage is the hourly wage a worker needs to earn to cover his/her family’s basic everyday expenses, once government transfers and deductions (e.g. income taxes, CPP) have been taken into account.

Research shows that living wages help improve the overall quality of life in a community. Living wages help to lift children out of poverty by giving families a basic level of economic security, allowing them to live without the constant stress of deciding which bills to pay. Employers who pay living wages report lower turnover and absenteeism rates, and greater employee engagement and loyalty. In addition, the extra money working families earn is spent in the local economy.  Join us as we share what living wage rate has been calculated for our local community!
