Local Community Food Centre
Food Fair (For Fair Food!) at the Local Community Food Centre

This Saturday, August 1st, the annual national event known as Food Day Canada celebrates the bounty of the local harvest and Canadian cuisine. Chefs and restaurants across the country design special menus on this day to highlight local products (www.fooddaycanada.ca). The Local Community Food Centre is a leader in Canada when it comes to making sure that all citizens enjoy the amazing food our country has to offer, so we’re joining the celebration in a big way!

On August 1st, from 3-7pm, the Local is hosting its first annual “Food Fair”! Our program coordinators and chef are working with our community of cooks, gardeners and social justice activists to create 8 food booths throughout the Local Community Food Centre, each showcasing at least one locally-sourced ingredient. Keeping with the spirit of the Local’s “Fair Food” philosophy, all food is being served completely free of charge - good local food should be accessible to everyone! There will be live music in our community gardens, as well as a cash bar featuring our favourite local brewery Black Swan Brewing Co. and VQA wines. Free face painting, bouncy castle and crafts for the kids!
