The loss of a valued colleague - Kathy Burrill

It is with great sadness I share with you that Kathy Burrill, Vice President Communication, Patient and Public Relations, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Kathy was a visionary, a creative mind, keen strategist and a master storyteller of the mission vision and values of St. Joseph's, who dedicated herself to keeping our sights on what matters most.

Kathy began her career at St. Joseph’s as a therapeutic recreation specialist in 1984 at what was then Parkwood Hospital. She moved on to leadership roles in quality assurance and risk management  as well as communication and public affairs before becoming  Director of Communication and Public Affairs for St. Joseph’s as a whole in 1997.

In 2011, Kathy took on the role of Vice President and since 2014 was responsible for mission, communication and public affairs, risk and patient relations, freedom of information and privacy, and volunteer services. She was also Vice President, Marketing and Communication for St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation.

Kathy built an award winning communication team of which she was very proud and was a valued member of our Senior Leadership Team. She was instrumental in cultivating and nurturing our partnerships in health care locally, regionally and provincially. She was committed to advancing London’s integrated hospital system, academic health sciences network, and Catholic health care in Ontario. She was a good friend, a giving spirit and a treasured colleague to so many.

As Kathy’s contributions reach far beyond our organization, I invite you to share any memories and stories you may have about working with Kathy. Feel free to send along your thoughts, memories and anecdotes to comdept@sjhc.london.on.ca.

In our hearts Kathy will remain, always, a cherished member of the St. Joseph's family.  Her eloquent words, her talent, her vision, her presence of the last 31 years live on in the chronicles and legacy of our organization.

We extend our deepest condolences to Kathy’s partner in life, Craig, and both their families.

For memorial service arrangements, please see the Mc Beath-Dynes Funeral Home website.
