Bursary Awards Program Provides Educational Support to Exceptional Summer Staff

Ontario and Ontario Parks' corporate partners are providing support to student employees in recognition of their excellent performance while working in Ontario Parks this year.

Now in its 16th year, the annual Ontario Parks Partners Bursary Awards recognize students for their great work, unparalleled service, and leadership in natural resources management. This year, corporate partners are providing 40 bursaries of $500 each.

The program, supported by corporate partners, provides funding to students for their post-secondary education.

Creating summer employment opportunities for students is part of the government's economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan.

Quick Facts:

  • Ontario is investing $250 million over the next two years to serve up to 150,000 more youth, through Youth Job Connection and other programs.
  • There are over 330 provincial parks in Ontario, covering more than 8-million hectares — larger than Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island combined.
  • In 2014, Ontario’s provincial parks received more than 8.5 million visits from people around the world and brought in more than $70 million in revenue, which supported jobs and businesses across the province.
