Perth District Health Unit
Breastfeeding Anytime, Anywhere Event on January 27 in Listowel
Women who breastfeed are invited to join the North Perth Breastfeeding Buddies peer-support group on Wednesday, January 27, from 10-11am, at Diana Sweets Restaurant in Listowel (190 Main St W).
The event is the next phase of a multimedia campaign launched in October, which features the breastfeeding stories of five local women. The Health Unit, in partnership with the Kids First Perth Breastfeeding Group, will be displaying posters and life-size cutouts of the five women across Perth County.
“The goal is to support women in Perth County who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed,” explains Ruth Anne Biehn, Lactation Consultant with the North Perth Family Health Team. “The campaign aims to provide encouragement, connect women with support early on, and help women feel comfortable to breastfeed anytime, anywhere.”
Local establishments will receive a window decal and resources to support women breastfeeding in public.
Women in Perth County are also encouraged to take selfies (called “#brelfies”) of themselves breastfeeding in public and upload them to social media at:
The campaign is a Kids First Huron-Perth initiative and is supported with funds from the Government of Ontario and the support of the Best Start Resource Centre at Health Nexus.
