Mayor Brown joins regional mayors in new partnership

London Mayor Matt Brown joined other urban Mayors from Southwestern Ontario yesterday to discuss how to collaboratively build a stronger region.

The meeting, held in Stratford, gave Mayors the opportunity to discuss important regional issues. The primary focus was on exploring options for strengthening the region's voice at the provincial and national levels.

"This meeting was a positive step forward for Southwestern Ontario," said Mayor Brown. "We discovered that our communities share many common priorities as well as a commitment to work collaboratively. Together we can ensure that the voice of Southwestern Ontario is heard clearly on the issues that affect us most. Some of these issues include regional transportation linkages, economic development opportunities and building healthy communities."

There are 2.5 million Ontarians in the region who count on our large urban centres to provide the infrastructure, public transit, and other services that they relay on every day. The City of London's rapid transit initiative, Shift, is one example of a transformative investment aimed at building a better, more connected region.

Mayor Brown was elected to serve as chair of the group with Mayor Cam Guthrie from Guelph serving as vice-chair. Mayors from Sarnia, London, Woodstock, Kitchener, Cambridge, Windsor, Guelph, St Thomas and Stratford make up the membership of this group. The mayors will meet regularly throughout the year to ensure they are focused and working on key regional priorities.
