Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario
Welcome Dinner for Syrian Refugee Families at the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario
The Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario (ICSWO) is set to host the largest Welcome Dinner for Newcomers on Saturday, February 20th at 5:30pm.
Since the start of the arrival of the Syrian Refugees to London, Ontario a collective community project where basic needs, cooperation, social support for integration and friendship is a priority, the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario, the London Muslim Mosque and the Muslim Association of Canada collaboratively co-organized for the Salam Donation Centre. Through this project the new families are provided with support and basic needs as they move into their new home. The successful model brought together many community volunteers of all faith groups and backgrounds, post-secondary students, leaders and politicians. This Saturday the Islamic Centre wants to host the dinner to welcome these new families with a meal, fun activities for the children and friendship building. The ICSWO is community-centered and values equality, social justice and the support of every individual in need.
Families, through the collaboration of the Cross Cultural Learner Centre, will be picked up from the hotel by shuttle buses.
ICSWO will host the families in the community hall of the Islamic Centre at 951 Pond Mills Rd, followed by a welcome speech from local politicians and community leaders.
