Creating With Parkinson's

As part of Parkinson's Awareness Month, on Saturday April 9th at 1:30pm, the Woodstock Art Gallery (WAG) will be hosting a special 2 hour panel discussion on Creating with Parkinson's. Guest speakers will include artists Michelle Forsyth and Dick Hale, and neurosurgeon Dr. Alfonso Fasano. Each speaker will address how Parkinson's disease is linked to artistic production and the creative drive.

Michelle Forsyth recently underwent deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson's disease. She will discuss Parkinson's and sensuality, specifically focusing on her recent work. Forsyth teaches painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design University.

Alfonso Fasano will discuss Parkinson's disease as a window into the neurobiology of creativity. Dr. Alfonso Fasano, MD, PhD is Associate Professor, University of Toronto, as well as the Director of the surgical program for movement disorders Movement Disorders Centre at Toronto Western Hospital.

Dick Hale is a self-taught artist and was a lifelong friend off Walter Redinger. He paints in a variety of styles ranging from social commentary to realism. He will speak about his abstract paintings which were created in response to his experience of living with Parkinson's.

This panel discussion has been developed in partnership with the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario and is part of the programming developed to support the current exhibition Joe Lima and Walker Redinger: Unlimited Possibilities. In recognition of the support Walter Redinger received during his battle with Parkinson's, a work has been donated by the artist's estate to be raffled off to raise funds for Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario. Tickets are $5 and are available for purchase at the Woodstock Art Gallery.

Admission to the Woodstock Art Gallery is free and open to all.
