Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance
Celebrating National Volunteer Week at HPHA
At the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA), volunteers are key team members and have always played an important part of the hospital experience for patients, families, staff and physicians. From offering a lending hand to raising funds, their contributors are a vital part of the everyday operations of each of the HPHA hospital sits in Clinton, St Marys, Seaforth and Stratford.
"At HPHA we know that volunteers can often deliver the best medicine too," says Chery Hunt, Corporate Lead Volunteer Services. "Our volunteers' compassion and generous contribution of time helps us deliver top-quality patient care, and provides another level of service to our patients and visitors."
HPHA has over 400 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who work in more than 20 aras of the Alliance, with staff, with patients or to raise funds to purchase medical equipment. In 2015, HPHA Volunteers provided more than 42,000 hours of service and raised over $131,000.
National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, is a time to recognize and celebrate the millions of Canadian volunteers for their gracious donations of time and energy. It is Canada's largest celebration of volunteers, volunteerism and civic participation.
"Volunteer Week is a wonderful opportunity to put the spotlight on our volunteers and recognize them for the essential role they play at HPHA," says Hunt. "Each year we host a Volunteer Lunch where all volunteers are thanked for their hard work and those who volunteer for five or more years are recognized with a Long Service Award."
This year 38 volunteers will receive Long Service Awards: 12 five-year recipients; 7 ten-year recipients; 3 fifteen-year recipients; 6 twenty-year recipients; 2 twenty-five-year recipients; 2 thirty-year recipients; 3 thirty-five-year recipients; and 3 forty-year recipients; combined this is 630 years of dedication.
"HPHA regularly receives compliments from patients sharing stories about how their experiences were positively impacted by the kindness, empathy and generosity of our amazing volunteers," adds Andrew Williams, President and CEO. "We can't thank our volunteers enough! Their selfless service makes HPHA a better organization to receive care and Huron and Perth Counties a better place to live."
